      Hi,

I want to win because it not only would give me the opportunity to engage with the local community a bit more, but also because I’d like to do it in a different way. I’d like to organise a student essay competition in local schools where my colleagues and I could teach students the basics of how to write a research essay and let them pick a STEM topic. I’d like to invite winners to spend a day in our lab. If it works, maybe it is something that could be scaled up to other institutions.

I want to win so I can help a school engineering club realise their dream of creating something cool. I love inventions and I love giving people the opportunity to do something!

I’d like to win because I’d like to show how great engineering is to lots of different people and I think Lego is a good way to do that because you can build anything you want from Lego, a lot like engineering. Lego is also a good way of explaining how 3D printing works, because not everyone understands it. I would like more people to know about 3D printing because it’s pretty awesome and you can do a lot with it – like build armour or satellite parts.

At the moment, I don’t have enough Lego to go around a whole class and I would like everyone to experience how fun and exciting engineering is.

What would you like to build with Lego? Would you make the same thing with a 3D printer?

p.s. Although if Andres wins, I’m definitely gonna write an essay! I’m so nosy about his lab and would like to see it. I’d like to see his essay competition run at my university too, because our labs are pretty cool too and have fun microscopes to play with.
