That’s a difficult question as there are so many who have done great things. In my line of work i would have to say Bazalgette for his life changing work on the London sewer network.

I really like Marconi’s work on radio as it has unlocked so much of the modern communication technology which underlies the modern world.

      Hi Herbie,

Very difficult question, I have a few. In terms of historic ones, Leonhard Euler is one of my favourites. I think his work in fluid dynamics and mechanics is very impressive. Such a multi-disciplinary and complete guy.

A bit more towards this century, the Wright brothers for successfully recording the first flight and Kelly Johnson (look it up if you don’t know him!) for the incredible airplanes he designed (one of them still holds the fastest flight ever recorded).

Finally, I think my favourite engineer of the 21st century is Elon Musk. I think his determination and how he believes in his own ideas is very admirable, even though some people might think some of them are infeasible and not very realistic. Time will tell who’s right!

      Andres
