      Hi DanM2,

I built a section of a aircraft landing gear undercarriage using carbon fibre. It was a team project during my first year of my PhD. Quite complicated to make. To give you an idea, it weighted less than 2 kg and it was able to resist about 1000 kg of load in the middle. It was difficult to make because we had to make it all by hand and it was very hard to make sure everything aligned and all the components were in the right location.

I helped to build a new railway through the centre of London. The trains drive themselves and are the most advanced in the world.

There are thousands of people working together to make this work and we all have to do our bit. If any one of us can’t do it we all can’t.

I think this makes it the most difficult thing I have ever done.
